Assignment 2: Photographers

A photographer that I admire that has used photography as an artistic expression is Jerry Uelsmann. He has used images to create surrealism and fantasy. Many people have said that he was the first photographer to successfully express Pop Art. A few examples of things that he would photograph would be ceramic figurines, dolls, old valentines, eagles, the American flag, etc. Then, he would incorporate other images to the picture to create romantic, surreal effects. These images would include a painter's easel, eyes, sunsets, birds, etc. Here is an example of one of his photographs:

A professional photographer that I admire is Erik Almas. He uses photography as a career, taking pictures of fashion, landscapes, portraits, and lifestyle. He takes a lot of pictures in San Francisco, where he lives, as well as in his hometown, Norway. His photography is really bold and defined, and he's good at making the photographs have a dramatic look that can catch peoples' eyes. Here's an example of one of his fashion photographs:

Assignment 3: Protocols

Assignment 1: Introduction

The camera that I use is an Olympus SZ-30. It's a silver digital compact camera that is really easy to use but also has a lot of features, like 24x optical zoom, magic filters, and a 3D recording setting. Usually to edit my photos I use Photoscape at home, which I've been using for about two years, but I've also used Adobe Photoshop before. Some things that I am interested in include art, photography, writing, playing guitar & keyboard, and listening to music. In the future I hope to become a photographer or I want to do something involving art or photography; probably something along the lines of an interior designer, illustrator, or photographer...that's why I'm taking this course. I want to learn more about how to take good portraits or how to take more creative pictures rather than just scenery and such. I learn best individually but I don't mind working in groups. I'm generally a visual learner. I really enjoy black & white photography, or taking pictures of nature (birds, flowers, etc.). Some photographers that I just found that I admire would be Ansel Adams, Lewis Hine, William Kline and Helen Levitt (because I love New York), and Tina Modotti.
